CASEY - Hardin Calhoun head coach Aaron Elmore rolled the dice twice on crucial plays in the fourth quarter of the Warriors 1A quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon at Casey-Westfield.

Each time the dice came up “sevens,” which ended the Casey-Westfield season with “snake-eyes.”

ALTON - In what appeared to be a classic matchup between rival schools in the river bend region of the Metro-East on Friday night turned into a blow out quickly for Roxana and head coach Wade DeVries.

With his Shells coming in with the same won-loss mark (5-3) as Alton Marquette, the game had the look of a close game on paper.

ELDORADO - The Flora Wolves came out as flat as a day old, opened can of soda on Saturday afternoon in their contest on the road at Eldorado.

The host Eagles came out and took it to the Wolves, taking a 22-14 halftime lead as the Flora defense didn't stop Eldorado until the final seconds of the second quarter.

FAIRFIELD - After a dismal offensive showing in a 14-6 loss at home to Red Hill on September 12, the Sesser-Valier/Waltonville Red Devils and head coach Nick Wingo were looking for a much better effort when they traveled to Fairfield for a Week 4 showdown with the Mules.

CHRISTOPHER - The Flora Wolves, despite a couple of hiccups (turnovers), took care of business in their contest on the road Friday night at Christopher.

Coach Brian Tackitt and his club left Franklin County with a 35-22 victory, a game in which they led 35-0 after three quarters before letting the reserves finish out the win.

MARSHALL - When it comes to learning how to win games for a young team in a program that is looking to improve, sometimes the lessons are difficult.

Sparta/Steeleville, after an opening weekend win last Friday night at Madison, traveled to Marshall on Saturday afternoon and found out that there is much more work to do.

CARTERVILLE - In the fourth quarter of their game at Carterville on Friday night the Nashville Hornets were on the doorstep of pulling out an important non-conference road win.

With the score deadlocked at 14-14 with just under six minutes left, the Hornets drove the ball to the Lions' two-yards line.

CARBONDALE - If you were to pick a key phrase to describe the SIRR Ohio Division this season, a good one to use would be “missing pieces.”

Graduation gutted this league like a large mouth bass, taking away most of the offensive and defensive strength from all five members of the league.

CARBONDALE - If there was such a thing as the “Comeback Team of the Year” in southern Illinois High School football, that award last season would have went to Olney Richland County last season.

The Tigers produced a bagel for wins (0-9) in 2023 but flipped the switch with a 9-0 regular season in 2024.
